Rutledge’s team loses one vote
To the editor:
I’m seriously disappointed with one of the University Students’ Council presidential candidates. Jeff Rutledge and his campaigners were beyond rude on Jan. 26 while they were campaigning in the University Community Centre atrium.
As most people were well aware, the Have a Heart for Haiti campaign was also launched that day. However, instead of being there all day, as the presidential campaigners were, the event only lasted one hour.
While I can understand all candidates may not have had time to come and watch, I don’t understand why they couldn’t show some respect and turn their music down or off for an hour.
As Haitians were sharing stories of the horrible devastation to their home country, it was incredibly unnecessary and rude to have this campaign in particular playing their music loudly and on repeat. Performers were singing beautiful songs, and as I sat and listened all I could hear in the back of my head was the incredibly irritating music coming from the Rutledge campaign table.
Have some respect — turn off your music for one hour, especially when other people are singing and playing guitar. You’ve lost at least one vote due to your campaign’s lack of common courtesy.

I kind of like Rutledge, but this is an unfortunate story. Poor judgment all round, but is it enough to completely sway your vote? I hope you look into the issues at hand before writing him off.
Or vote for the $3 meals. Whatever.
