Huron hires CAOYork Security Services and the Toronto Police Service are currently investigating an incident of assault, which occurred Sunday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. in a residence at York University.
According to Keith Marnoch, associate director of media relations at York, Toronto Police and York Security Services were simultaneously notified by a 911 call of the incident at York University’s Keele campus.
The call informed police of a male student who had been assaulted in Tatham Hall. The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“At this time, we still aren’t sure whether or not the attacker was a student of York University,” Marnoch said. Marnoch mentioned the reason for the assault is unclear, although it is believed the two individuals knew each other.
Marnoch noted the 911 call was made from within the residence, although it was not a residence staff who placed the call.
York Security Services is asking students to be mindful of their surroundings, report any suspicious behaviour and try to limit residence access to members of the York community.
