Last Wednesday an instructor at Michigan State University and renowned Veterinary College resident was arrested on multiple charges of sexual assault and one charge of kidnapping.

According to reports from the East Lansing Police Department, the 35-year-old instructor was reported to have developed relations with a teenage girl he originally met over an Internet dating site.

MSU announced last Friday the suspect will receive a 30-day suspension with pay. MSU spokesperson Jason Cody expressed a possibility subsequent measures may be implemented after further examination of the case.

“East Lansing prosecutors charged [the individual] with one count of kidnapping which he can face up to a life sentence for,” Jeff Murphy, a sergeant with the East Lansing police, said.

He also indicated the suspect’s three subsequent criminal charges also have the potential for life sentences.

Takashi Higuchi has pleaded not guilty to all allegations and currently remains in the vicinity of the Ingham County Jail. He is awaiting a pre-trial, which has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. next Tuesday.
